Whitestone's team is led by Owen Gee who has over 20 years’ experience as a Patent Attorney and a Trade Marks Attorney in Australia and Hong Kong. Owen has vast expertise in IP law in Hong Kong, China and Asia. Owen has acted as a team leader for a number of enforcement and court actions in both Hong Kong and China, including patent infringement and invalidation actions, and as a patent expert in a landmark Hong Kong High Court patent infringement case. As well as drafting patent specifications and trade mark applications, Owen is skilled at prosecuting complex patent and trade mark matters through to registration, and preparing comprehensive validity and infringement opinions. He has also been involved in IP licensing, sales and acquisitions.
Clients call on Owen's broad experience as an IP attorney, business owner and founder to formulate effective strategies for IP protection, enforcement, monetisation, commercialisation, branding, innovation and technology management. He provides expert advice tailored to the client's particular circumstances as a corporate, SME, venture or startup, and aligned with business objectives and market context. He delivers this advice seamlessly, whether as a specialist advisor, fractional counsel or mentor.
Previously, Owen was involved in setting up the Hong Kong office of a large Asia Pacific IP firm, and was the managing principal of this office for a number of years. Before that, he was a founder and principal of a boutique IP firm in Hong Kong for over 10 years. Owen commenced his career as a professional engineer before registering as an IP attorney and practicing in leading and international IP firms.
